Alberta Ferretti Is for the 'Romantic Yet Rational' Woman in Fall/Winter 2025

Lorenzo Serafini unveiled his highly anticipated debut collection for Alberta Ferretti at the Fall/Winter 2025 runway show during Milan Fashion Week, signaling a fresh chapter for the storied Italian house. Titled "Progressive Romantics," the collection ushered in Serafini’s modern vision with the legacy of romanticism and femininity established by Ferretti herself, who retired last year.
With his inaugural collection, Serafini sought to honor Ferretti’s signature elegance while carving out his own narrative. “I wanted to portray romantic yet rational women—keen to both affirm themselves and nourish their personal lives,” the Italian designer wrote in show notes. "Women who do not have to choose between independence and emotion… They deserve both."
This philosophy was woven into every garment, capturing the duality of strength and softness that defines contemporary womanhood. The runway was a cascade of airy chiffon dresses and delicate floral accents, evoking a sense of timeless romance. However, Serafini’s take on femininity was far from traditional. Sleek suiting, sharply tailored capes, and fluid trench coats introduced a pragmatic edge. Cashmere and wool blazers, rendered with raw edges, embodied an essence that felt both fresh and refined. Serafini’s designs played with contrast, merging the whimsical with the structured. Chiffon balloon underskirts peeked from beneath stretch knit skirts, while long, architectural dresses featured soft cutouts, adding a youthful energy.
Throughout the collection, Serafini pursued lightness and movement. His focus was clear: to create clothes that empower women to express and communicate their emotions freely. “I aimed to create clothes that, once worn and interpreted, allow them to express and communicate emotions and feelings,” Serafini noted, emphasizing the collection’s deeper meaning. The collection’s color palette shifted seamlessly from warm tones to deep hues, with metallic plaques offering a contemporary twist on classic chiffon gowns.
