All Nightmare weapon skins and locations in Doom: The Dark Ages

Nightmare skins are a type of weapon skin in Doom: The Dark Ages. By equipping them, you can customize your guns to look as cool as the killing sprees you perform with them — but you do have to find these skins first.

Skins can be easily equipped in Doom: The Dark Ages by accessing the dossier and selecting the gun in your arsenal. Just press the command to open the skin selection screen and get one you enjoy the most. Nightmare skins are located on the map and indicated by the symbol of a brush. While pinpoint their locations isn’t too tough, actually reaching those places is the true challenge.

In this Doom: The Dark Ages guide, we’ll go over all Nightmare skins and where to get them.

How to get all Nightmare skins in Doom: The Dark Age

Nightmare skins encompasses the weapon skins obtainable during the levels of the game as collectibles. Every weapon in the game has a corresponding Nightmare skin. While skins don’t add effect to your guns, making them stronger or better, they make them look cool. That’s all you probably need.

Below, we’ll show you where to find all Nightmare skins in Doom: The Dark Ages.

Combat Shotgun (Village of Khalim)

The first skin you get in the game is the Nightmare Combat Shotgun and it is located in the Village of Khalim, in the segment of the level after you have opened the gate using the blue key. You will need to clear the area by killing the enemies and closing the hell gates. After killing the initial group of enemies, go left while facing the giant statue and enter the first entrance. There is a giant statue holding a sword in the middle of the screen, a pink arrow pointing left, direction which you must follow to find the Combat Shotgun Nightmare skin in Doom: The Dark Ages.

There will be more enemies for you to face here. Clear the area and follow the only path accessible now. When you get into the corridor, the entrances will become blocked by a red wall. The only way to open them is to kill all the demons inside — as expected. A screenshot where there is a gate to your left. To reach it, you need to take some distance, run and press the jump button right as you approach the edge of the cliff.

Shredder (Hebeth)

The Shredder Nightmare skin in Doom: The Dark Ages. This is a machine gun-like weapon with details and sigils in red. Most parts are painted in dark gray and light gray.

You eventually get inside a facility where you can see the brush symbol in a short corridor on a higher level on the map. By following the initial corridor, you reach a point where you must use the Shield Recall Jump to cross to the other side. On the other side, you will find a Sentinel Shrine. Climb the wall beside it and reach the next section. Look to your left to find a few boxes and an opened hatch above them. Since it has the yellow marks, it means you can climb it. Use the boxes to reach the hatch and enter a pathway in the upper level. Follow the trail of gold and it will lead you to an opening. Use it to access the room where the Shredder Nightmare skin is located!

Accelerator (Sentinel Barracks)

A pistol in hues of gray and a few details in red. You see a sphere of glass in the body of the pistol, which is where plasma appears when you use it in Doom: The Dark Ages.

Finding the Accelerator’s Nightmare skin is pretty simple. Once you have unlocked Chapter 4 “Sentinel Barracks,” you should progress in the “Get to the Aratum” mission. From the path you came, look to the right side of the square and you will see the tallest building in the area. It has two large towers and an opening between them. Pulverizer (The Holy City of Aratum)

The Pulverizer’s Nightmsare skin comes with details in red, while the rest of the gun is covered with a dark sober gray. You can see skulls in a slot waiting to be smashed and be used as the ammo of this gun.

Pulverizer already has an interesting look, but if you want to pump it up, be sure to get its Nightmare Skin. You can find it in Chapter 5 “The Holy City of Aratum” right at the beginning of the mission. Get your dragon and fly to the center of the city. Then, descend to reach the lowest part of it where you will see a large circular structure surrounded by three pillars. There are two Titans protecting the place, so be sure to kill them. Otherwise, the landing spot won’t appear for you. A map of the lower area in the Holy City of Aratum in Doom: The Dark Ages. Once you set foot in the central area, start by going to where there is a single enemy and a button on the ground. Now, jump from the edge next to the button to access the lower segment of the map. Turn left, enter a long corridor and keep following it to find the Pulverizer’s Nightmare skin.

Impaler (Siege – Part 1)

The Impaler’s Nightmare skin. Following the general idea of this group of skins, this one has details in red. The spikes it shoots are also in red. The rest of the weapons is gray.

The Nightmare skin for the Impaler is found in Chapter 6 “Siege – Part 1,” which has a massive map that you can get lost on pretty quickly. But before you can start thinking about heading to where the skin is located, you need to grab the Purple Key. Start your way from the initial gate and head forward. Be careful since there are lots of enemies. It won’t take long for you to see the large flying Purple Key indicating where they actual key is located. Just clear the area and grab it. Now, go back to the main gate and, while facing the battlefield, go to the left side of the map, following the arrows indicated on our map. You will find an immense box in the center of the next room. Turn left to find a Purple Door. Since you already have the key, it will automatically unlock and you can go grab the Impaler’s Nightmare skin. Super Shotgun (Ancestral Forge)

You will find the Nightmare skin for the Super Shotgun in Chapter 9 “Ancestral Forge,” but before you can give red details to your short barrel shotgun, you need to find the path to the platform where it is located. As you progress the main mission to reach the Ancestral Forge, you get to a section with thin platforms surrounded by lines of pods going all the way to the ceiling. You want to get to the larger platform that has two levels. There is one invisible enemy waiting for you there who can push you out of the platform, so be careful.

Now, jump until you get on the platform with the blue circle on the wall. Throw your shield at it to trigger the mechanism. A montage of Doom: The Dark Ages with two images. There will be a group of shielded demons at the top of the platform. Kill them but don’t go toward the next area. Come back to the platform you elevated using the mechanism and look to the direction you came before. A montage of two Doom: The Dark Ages screenshots. Keep your shield in the blue circle and jump to the pod you released before. Next, you want to hit the Green Flesh Node to Recall Jump and reach the platform where the Super Shotgun’s Nightmare skin is located.

Cycler (The Forsaken Plains)

Chapter 10 “The Forsaken Plains” is where you can find the Cycler’s Nightmare skin. Although the map might look confusing, getting the skin involves the simple process of killing an extremely powerful demon. When the chapter begins, you can follow the path to the right. In the farthest point of the map in this direction, there is a red zone in a higher segment of the area marked by a crowned skull icon. You need to travel all the way to this red zone and defeat its leader — who will also give you an Ammo upgrade. After the fight, follow to the right of the arena to access the stairs where you find the skin. Chainshot (Sentinel Command Station)

Once you get to Chapter 12 “Sentinel Command Station,” you can go look for the Chainshot’s Nightmare skin.

By following the main mission, which requires you to get to Serrat, you drop into a deep hole and reach what seems to be a command room. You can see the skin on the map at this point and find it locked behind a door right beside the room. To get the skin, you must go to the command room and break the wall on the left side. There is a blue circle on it indicating you should dash with your shield to break it. Follow the gold trail in the next room and fight a few enemies. Now, you need to take some distance, use the sprint to jump and reach the platform where the skin is. Grenade Launcher (Spire of Nerathul)

For you to find the Nightmare skin for the Grenade Launcher in Chapter 14 “Spire of Nerathul,” you must ride the cyberdragon and find a hidden entrance. The best place to start is from the top of a waterfall close to the highest mountain in this area. Then, go all the way down to the bottom of the map to find an entrance. Enter and keep going forward until you reach a landing spot. Land your dragon and enter the portal that will be right in front of you. A montage of two Doom: The Dark Ages screenshots. Rocket Launcher (Temple of Lomarith)

The Nightmare skin for the mighty Rocket Launcher is found in Chapter 17 “Temple of Lomarith.” You can focus on progressing through the main mission until you get to the area before you can complete the goal of entering the temple. When you get to this point, the brush icon will be visible on your map. To reach the location of the skin, which is locked behind a gate, go to the lower part of the area and get to the left side of the map, where you can find an entrance. After crossing the opening, you will need to swim downward. You end up leaving the water and dropping to the bottom. By getting there, you’re violently greeted by a giant tentacle. Ravager (Resurrection)

The last Nightmare skin you can obtain in Doom: The Dark Ages is for the Ravager and you can find it in Chapter 20 “Resurrection.” A Doom: The Dark Ages screenshot showing the Nightmare skin location on the Chapter 20 map.

You can easily spot the brush icon on the map by exploring the central part of the area. However, it is located underground, making locating the entrance the real challenge. First, climb to the area above where the icon is. There are two possible ways to reach the place. A montage made by using two Doom: The Dark Ages screenshots. When you are at the top of it, you can find an opening in the group. Jump into it to access the underground area where the skin is. There are a few enemies in the area but nothing to worry about. Go ahead and take the path to the right side. You will see a booster that you should use to leave the area. Before you do so, go left to get to where the Ravager’s Nightmare skin is. While there are no prerequisites for you to go get the skin, you may want to look for the Yellow Key before to save you time. If you have it, you can open the gate and grab some Gold and other goodies.
