Assassin’s Creed Shadows price slashed as Ubisoft adds Nightmare difficulty mode

Players who have been on the fence about purchasing Assassin’s Creed Shadows — or are just struggling to find something new to do in-game — will likely be pleased to learn that the latest entry in the Assassin’s Creed franchise is now available to purchase at 25% off, slashing its retail price from $69.99 to $52.49. Additionally, Ubisoft has released an update for the game featuring a challenging new difficulty setting.

The news of the 25% off sale comes alongside the release of Title Update 1.0.6, a patch that adds several new features to the game, including a new Nightmare difficulty mode for players in search of a challenge. In a press release announcing the update, Ubisoft devs indicated that Nightmare Mode is intended for “expert players [who are] willing to test their skills and earn proper bragging rights.” But the update also includes a surprise for players of all skill levels: a new, recruitable character named Rufino, who is voiced by Critical Role‘s Robbie Daymond.

“The [1.0.6] update will introduce a thrilling new ally: Rufino, a charismatic character brought to life by none other than Critical Role‘s Robbie Daymond,” Ubisoft shared in a press release. “Players can now recruit Rufino and experience his unique flair in the side quest that awaits them at the hideout.”

The update also includes a few other tweaks and quality-of-life updates. For instance, headgear like hoods, helmets, and headbands will finally appear in cutscenes. The game’s world has also become more responsive. As of the new update, repeatedly accosting innocent civilians or attacking military units will activate the game’s expanded Regional Alert System, resulting in angry guardians chasing players across the game’s open world, GTA-style.

The 1.0.6 update is live now, as is the 25% off sale. But to get the discount, players must purchase Assassin’s Creed Shadows directly from the Ubisoft Store, and must make their purchase before the sale ends on July 25. The sale price applies to both the console and PC versions of the game.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is available on ipadOS, macOS, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows PC.
