The future of esports betting in India and the critical role of localisation were front and center in a recent interview conducted by SiGMA World with Rakesh Eligapalli, CEO of Primecraft Games.

The conversation, published as part of SiGMA’s ongoing coverage of gaming industry trends, explored the rapid growth of esports in India and the unique challenges and opportunities facing operators in the region.

During the interview, Eligapalli addressed the evolving landscape of esports betting, a sector that has drawn significant attention as India’s esports audience continues to expand.

He emphasised that while traditional sports betting is well-established, esports betting is emerging as a major area of interest, especially among younger demographics.

“Esports betting is definitely a growing segment,” Eligapalli told SiGMA World, noting that the rise of competitive gaming and increased tournament visibility have fueled demand for new betting products tailored to esports fans.

Eligapalli highlighted the importance of building trust and ensuring regulatory compliance as key factors for sustainable growth in the esports betting space.

He pointed out that Indian consumers are highly attuned to issues of transparency and fairness, making it essential for operators to provide clear information and robust player protections.

“Operators must focus on responsible gaming and transparency to build long-term trust with users,” he stated, referencing the need for industry-wide standards as the sector matures.

Eligapalli explained that successful esports betting platforms must offer content in regional languages and incorporate local payment solutions to reach the widest possible audience.

“Localisation is the key to unlocking growth in India’s esports and betting markets,” he said, adding that platforms that ignore these factors risk missing out on a significant share of the market.

He expressed optimism about the government’s willingness to engage with industry stakeholders to develop frameworks that support innovation while protecting players.

As esports betting continues to gain traction in India, Eligapalli’s insights underscore the sector’s potential and the strategic importance of localisation and compliance.
