Call of Duty Black Ops 7 revealed ahead of Championship Weekend

Call of Duty Black Ops 7 has been revealed ahead of the season-ending Call of Duty League (CDL) Championship Weekend later this month.

Unveiled as part of the Xbox Games Showcase, it is the first time Activision has released consecutive Black Ops games.

The latest instalment of Activision’s first-person shooter (FPS) franchise was revealed at the end of the showcase, confirming rumours of a return to a near-futuristic setting synonymous with the Black Ops series.

Call of Duty Black Ops 7’s development is spearheaded by Treyarch, with Raven Software working on the creation of a new co-op, single-player campaign. Details on the title’s multiplayer features have yet to be revealed.

While details on Black Ops 7 multiplayer haven’t arrived, the key artwork for the title mentions June 20th, 2025, implying another reveal providing additional insight could take place on this date. In recent years, Activision has hosted Call of Duty: NEXT, a preview event showcasing its latest release in collaboration with a range of esports players and content creators.

Towards the end of the trailer, characters are seen flying towards the ground using wingsuits and invisibility cloaks, hinting at the rumoured return of futuristic movement mechanics expected to arrive.

When Call of Duty Black Ops 7 launches later this year, the title will be adopted by the Call of Duty League as the title used for the next season of the franchised esports league.

The potential return of futuristic movement mechanics could also mean wider changes to the game modes used in competitive play. Previous seasons where wall running was present have used Uplink as the third game mode for esports competition instead of Control.

New movement mechanics also has the ability to create a wider skill gap as players attempt to master the most effective methods of gaining the upper hand against the best players in the world.
