DIY Question. Best way to remove adhesive from wall?

We had a large mirror in our bathroom that fell off this morning. It's been up ever since we moved in and I assume it's been here in the house for 30+ years. Not going to replace the mirror, rather resurface the wall but I have no idea how to get these super old gross globs of glue off.
