Doja Cat Drips in 'Diamonds' at the 2025 Oscars

Doja Cat made waves when she arrived to this year's Oscars red carpet. The musician practically cosplayed as a cat (again) by wearing a form-fitting leopard gown and matching scarf, made custom, by Balmain. But it was her on-stage look after the event started that really made its mark: At her surprise performance at the Academy Award, the "Paint The Town Red" singer changed into a sheer dress, dripping in diamonds.

The singer-rapper got on stage to perform "Diamonds Are Forever" by Shirley Bassey, and she dressed the part. Doja Cat wore a custom Swarovski dress made of a sheer bodice and skirt that was delicately embellished with webs of crystals. She finished off the look with what seemed to be dripping-in-diamonds opera gloves that moved with her as she performed. Doja Cat topped off the whole ensemble with strappy Amina Muaddi sandal heels, a lariat Swarovski necklace, and a short chop. On stage at the Dolby Theatre, she brought her own take to the song from the 1971 James Bond film.

This year's Academy Awards seemed to take a strong stance against sheer dresses and see-through looks, based on a leaked memo detailing the dress code. Though her look on the red carpet fit the bill, Doja Cat seemed to take her moment on stage to defy the more modest dress code and rock what she wanted to.

Doja Cat's custom diamond dress is far from her first rodeo when it comes to being covered in jewels. The artist famously turned heads in January 2023 when she arrived to the Schiaparelli show during Paris Couture Week in a red gown, full red body paint, and 30,000 Swarovski crystals. The red Swarovski crystals covered every inch of her body visible in the look, making her look like something of a live statue.

Doja Cat was one of three musicians who took part in the tribute to 007 and the James Bond franchise. Raye, fresh off her wins at the Grammys sang her version of Adele's "Skyfall," after stunning in a red Vivienne Westwood gown on the red carpet. Blackpink's Lisa, who is starring in The White Lotus Season 3 sang and danced to "Live and Let Die" by Wings.

The James Bond films had their moment in the spotlight after its longtime owners (the Broccoli family) sold the franchise to Amazon for full creative control. The three singers honored the film's legacy through its iconic songs and elegant aesthetics, and Doja Cat's diamond dress brought the heat.
