Finishing Trim Around Exterior Door
I had a contractor who bailed on me after getting my front exterior door installed, and I need to get the wood trim installed around the door. I have the new lumber I need (although the vertical pieces are at 4 1/2” width and I’ll need to find a way to take them down to 3 1/2” without a table saw) and kept the old header so I can just repaint and slap that back on. Few questions: What is the proper way to seal and protect things on the inside before installing the wood? I have a roll of flashing tape leftover from another job, would this work well? There’s some existing paper left, should I keep that or cut it off? I obviously want to get the new pieces as close to the previous stucco as I can, but what product should I use to fill the gap between the new wood and stucco? Should I just use a drill and screws? Or a hammer and nails? And lastly, any advice on how to best measure and cut the angled end so I only need to cut one side of the lumber? I have a miter saw and 7” circular saw to work with. submitted by /u/theswellmaker [link] [comments]
