framing staircase opening
I'm getting ready to cut an opening in perpendicular floor joists for new stairwell leading from basement to first floor. I've got all the structural posts and LVL beams in place (except for BMO-4, see pic), I'm wondering how to handle the exterior wall side of opening (see red lines in drawing), where the joists will be cut and left with only about 6-7" of length. Should I just cut these joists about 1/2" shorter than wall framing below, and then attach 1/2" plywood strip across ends of cut joists, strengthening these joists and making flush with wall framing? This will eventually be a stacked staircase, with another stair going from first floor to second floor. https://preview.redd.it/0adqewu3jkme1.png?width=903&format=png&auto=webp&s=821944325ddd2ea604351fcef9ccfc13c232160e https://preview.redd.it/79feuvu3jkme1.jpg?width=1848&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=79ac670a07a7160b52c08b40be5ca7482a905f03 https://preview.redd.it/fz20nvu3jkme1.jpg?width=1848&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=162d6a53bacb4ab58736d0131bf5813ee5cc7858 submitted by /u/nilocyevrag [link] [comments]
