How can I re-attach my basement stair stringers securely?
Question: How can I re-attach my basement stair stringers? My basement stair stringers aren't securely attached. Looking underneath the stairs, it appears the right side stair stringer is hanging on by a couple of nails. The framing of my house appears to follow the 4th image. From the double header / rim joist, there are three vertical 2x4s that are attached. There are another two 2x4s acting as drop down headers that are directly below the the double headers, but are attached to the vertical 2x4s. The stair stringers are attached to the drop down header 2x4s. The connection has got extremely loose, but thankfully the left stringer is attached to the joist via a hanger and bolt. What's the best way I can replace this without tearing up the stairs?
