Is this safe…

I’m not sure exactly why, but the landlord had the ceiling fan in the living room removed before we moved in. In place of the ceiling fan, my gf wanted me to hang a disco ball(2nd photo). I figured that would be pretty simple, and drilled into the metal plate covering the old mounting bracket for the fan, so I could screw in the hook for the disco ball. As the drill bit made it through the plate there was a big spark(you can see the black singe mark to the right of the bracket), the tip of my drill bit got melted/blown-off, and I tripped the fuse for the room. I then took one of the screws out of the plate so I could swivel it out of the way and see what my drill bit had shorted out(1st photo). I thought loose wires were supposed to be capped off…is the current(pun intended) situation a fire hazard? How do I complete the project? submitted by /u/Glorfindel77 [link] [comments]

  1. I thought loose wires were supposed to be capped off…is the current(pun intended) situation a fire hazard?

  2. How do I complete the project?
