Review: Boyalink 3 Wireless Microphones and Transmitter

When asked if I wanted to review this wireless microphone set, I was, “You bet!” Mostly because I like my sound gear to be unobtrusive. It was hard for me to believe that microphone and receiver could be this small and still have solid quality sound. I’m working with a DEMO model and will keep the Boyalink 3 but these are my thoughts as I put it through the paces.

Boyalink 3 is a dual wireless microphone transceiver and receiver system with noise cancellation. The microphones are tiny and the receiver is not too much larger. It comes with a storage unit that recharges the elements when they are returned to the case.

Pros

• Very small and unobtrusive
• Long recording time
• Very nice sound
• AI Noise cancellation
• Easy deployment with clip or magnet
• Wireless

Cons

• Would have liked the attachments to have a home in the main container — it does come with a drawstring bag for overall storage — so minor quibble

Boyalink 3 Wireless Microphone — Ergonomics and build quality

Packaging will often give you a clue to the quality built into a product. the care shown there often is reflected in the actual product. No failure here. Packed well the gear shows well. The housing for the transmitters and microphones is super solid. It contains a recharging battery that is refueled with a USB C cord. Everything sits nicely and light report on the status of all gear.

Blinking red lights indicate each piece is charging. There is a set of four light on the exterior showing change of the battery. When you open the unit blue lights, steady or blinking, on all pieces show whether units are paired. Removing them from the case gives more info. Microphones stay paired with the receiver. If however they loose pairing return to a pared state is as easy as holding down the power button for five seconds and waiting for steady blue lights to appear.

Getting ready to film was a piece of cake. In this case I was using my iPhone. The kit contains 2 different connectors for phone connection. USB C and It also comes with a 3.5mm connection to port into your camera. Microphones have versatile connectors. The supplied clip has a strong magnet built in. You can clip the mic or put the magnet under clothing to place the mic in any convenient position. Microphone is only nine grams and the form factor is very unobtrusive.

I was set and ready to go on my mobile setup in about two minutes.

An interview with both mics working had no issues. Here’s a couple scenarios with sample sound. Note that whenever you are recording outdoors you will want to dress your microphones with the included fur windshield. It is noted in the instructions that it’s a good practice. Of course, I had neglected to read ALL of the instructions before I started using the microphones. So I did get some wind blowing noise when I neglected that step. Read all the directions to save yourself some grief.
