My upstairs neighbors hate us! Please help!
A few months ago, my sister, 3 year old, and I moved into an old 2 story building built around the turn of the century. We chose first floor on purpose because of the child, who runs around a lot. First months were rough - the kid was screaming at night and having a hard time adjusting, so I read a parenting book and got that sh** under control. But the upstairs neighbors (2 units) have been complaining about hearing stomping every day from us. We are BELOW them but they say footsteps echo because of lack of insulation. I have reached out to the landlord who says we can’t do much, and it’s an old house. I believe them because both are complaining. And I feel bad!!!! I’ve worked on my own footsteps and I’m trying to work on my kid for AM. But just her running around bothers them! They think it’s the 2 adults but I really don’t think so. I mean maybe in part, but mostly it’s this kid! Who, given other 3 year olds I have known, is really not too crazy (ok now that screaming has been mostly dealt with), but is super active and running and jumping. Please help me!!! What can I do? I bought 1 rug and will buy 2 more. But the neighbors think we’re just careless and that won’t do anything much. I want to barf every time I drop something because I know they hate it.
