Painting Process
So, I'm finally getting around to painting my living room. It's been on the "eventually" list for like, a year, and now that I'm actually starting to think about it, I'm realizing this isn't just a "pick a color, slap it on" kind of deal. My brain is going through some serious gymnastics, and I'm wondering if I'm alone in this, or if everyone else also has a pre-paint mental breakdown. Here's what I'm currently wrestling with, and I'd love to hear your experiences: The "Thought Process" Deep Dive: Seriously, what's the internal monologue like when you're deciding to paint a room? Is it a sudden epiphany? A slow burn of dissatisfaction? Do you visualize the entire room in different shades before you even look at a swatch? I feel like I'm trying to predict the future of my living space, and it's exhausting. Decision-Making Timeline: From the moment the thought "I should paint this room" enters your head to actually buying the paint – how long does that typically take for you? Are we talking days, weeks, months, or do some of you just wake up, decide, and go buy paint that afternoon? I'm currently in week three of "thinking about thinking about it." The Store Pilgrimage(s): How many trips to the paint store (or hardware store, or Home Depot, etc.) do you usually make before you commit? Is it one quick grab, or are you like me, making multiple pilgrimages to stare at the same wall of colors, then leaving empty-handed, only to return a few days later? I'm already on trip number two just for inspiration. The Swatch Saga: And speaking of swatches... how long do those little paper rectangles sit on your wall? Do you move them around? Observe them at different times of day? Do they become permanent fixtures for a while, silently judging your indecision? Mine are currently having a staring contest with my sofa, and I'm not sure who's winning. I'm genuinely curious if my process is normal, or if I'm just overthinking this to an extreme degree. Any insights, war stories, or tips for navigating the pre-paint purgatory would be hugely appreciated! Thanks in advance, A fellow homeowner on the brink of a color crisis. submitted by /u/Soft_Ad_3607 [link] [comments]
