Thoughts on window AC being used while a window in the room is open.
Context: My wife prefers to have a window AC in our room to keep the room cold at night 65F (18C for ROW) or lower for sleeping. I am on board with this and prefer to have our room cold and it saves on energy cost to cool the room vs the whole house. The Issue: She will run the AC when it is cold outside (I know how AC units work and that it is terribly inefficient to do this). When it is colder outside than in, she will run the AC AND leave one of the windows open in the room to help cool the room faster. She doesn't believe me that we are just wasting the energy being used by the AC with the window open. She is asking for 'proof' (ie, not just taking my word for it). I thought maybe I'd ask here to see if y'all had any suggestions of how to prove this is a terrible idea. submitted by /u/Scuba_Ty [link] [comments]
