Trying to hang 20 lb mirror in plaster with an anchor and air duct directly behind wall

I recently tried hanging a mirror (about 18 lbs) using a toggle bolt in my plaster walls. However, after drilling a 3/8" wide and 1 inch deep pilot hole I noticed there's an air vent butted up to the back of the plaster so there's no cavity behind the wall for a toggle/molly bolt (there's no register on the side of the wall I was working on which is why I didn't think there was an air vent there). Would a ~1 inch plastic/nylon anchor be strong enough to hold the mirror? Package says it can hold up to 75 lbs, but I sometimes have a hard time trusting that. I have used them in the past with my plaster walls, but they've been for somewhat lighter items. This mirror is particularly expensive so I don't want to risk it falling. From google searches and using chatGPT, it says to use metal/lead anchors, however I can't seem to find a metal sleeve that's an inch short (most are closer to 2+ inches) or one that doesn't require a hollow cavity behind the wall. The mirror can't really go anywhere else that the air vent isn't at so it's either work with what I got or hang the mirror somewhere else in the house. I also noticed these anchor patches on Amazon and didn't know how sturdy they would be. Thanks in advance! submitted by /u/vivalastl [link] [comments]
