Calvin Klein made its highly anticipated return to the runway after six years, bringing renewed energy to New York Fashion Week for the Fall/Winter 2025 shows. But the brand's return wasn't the only exciting thing of note. The show also marked recently appointed Creative Director Veronica Leon's debut. On the runway Friday afternoon, she embraced the classic American spirit that is synonymous with Calvin Klein while working something new into its DNA.
The collection shows off Calvin Klein's signature minimalist aesthetic in an elevated manner, with an emphasis on versatility and personal expression. "The idea of clothes for life, 24/7, is explored, celebrating freedom for women, liberation for men, versatility for today," show notes explain. "Desire is the byword: creating emotional connections through the language of heightened simplification, suggesting pureness of design as a way to entice personal expression."
Drawing inspiration from American archetypes, Leoni paid homage to the classic characters of a bustling city with special attention to New Yorkers. Think of a taxi driver wearing a leather bomber jacket, a college student running around campus in a shrunken jumper, or woman shedding her daytime suiting for an evening in a red dress. Of course, there were garments fit for the city's corporate employees. Each look nodded to these cultural touchstones while infusing them with modern relevance, anchoring the collection in a rich narrative of Americana.
Leoni's collection also reintroduced underwear as a recurring motif, reimagined through a lens of intimacy and tactility. Pieces were layered thoughtfully to evoke the feeling of nostalgic comfort and allure, including staples like a relaxed knitted henley and the casual sensuality of a silky slip dress.
Any designer's highly anticipated show at fashion week will bring in quite the crowd, and celebrities flocked to Calvin Klein. The front row was packed with A-list stars like Kate Moss and Christy Turlington. Bad Bunny joined as well, while (his ex) Kendall Jenner walked the runway.
