Rime beetles are a kind of endemic life in Monster Hunter Wilds. You’ll need to capture them as part of a side quest, “Samin’s Research Report (Cont.),” for Samin at the Windward Plains base camp.

This is fourth side quest in Dareel and Samin’s ongoing feud — you’ve already caught a tracktail lizard, dapperwing, and an ember rufflizard. Now, you need to find rime beetles.

Our Monster Hunter Wilds guide will tell you where to find rime beetles and how to catch them.

To find rime beetles, you’ll have to head to the Iceshard Cliffs. Unlock most of the other endemic life you’re after, you can actually find these in the map’s menu. Open your map and hit right on the D-pad two times. Scroll through the list until you find rime beetles. That will let you set a waypoint straight to them.

Area 2 is a good place to start. You can usually find a couple of them rolling their snowballs around the open area. The closest pop-up camp is Area 1: Icy Shore.

Monster Hunter Wilds capturing a rime beetle

Once you’ve spotted a rime beetle, all that’s left is to capture them. Equip your capture net either from the item bar or from your Essential Items radial menu.

With the new rectangle reticle, approach the beetle (they’re not particularly skittish) until the reticle turns yellow-orange and fire it. Just make sure you hit L2/LT and not the usual Square/X.

With the quest complete, you’ll have to wait a bit to get the next side quest in the series, “Dareel’s Special Research Report,” which has you track down a gillopod.
