Mean Girls (2004)

The most iconic movie of the Y2K era is arguably Tina Fey's masterpiece, Mean Girls. It's where audience members were introduced to Seyfried who portrayed Karen Smith, one of the "plastics." The film follows the story of a teenager named Cady Heron, played by Lindsay Lohan, who moves to the U.S. from South Africa and learns about a whole new type of wildlife, high school. Seyfried's iconic role as Karen in the comedic film stands out in her filmography for her comedic timing and her ability to showcase her acting range.

Mamma Mia! (2008)

Seyfried not only acts but can also sing. The modern musical Mamma Mia! is based on the Broadway production of the same name and tells the story of Sophie, played by Seyfried, and her journey of self-discovery as she prepares to embark on a new adventure: marriage. Her journey of self-discovery involves her biological father who has been absent her entire life. She finds her mother's, Donna who's played by Meryl Streep, diaries and decides to invite the three men her mother spent the summer she was conceived with to her wedding. It's a feel-good movie in which Seyfried gives a genuine performance. There's also a sequel, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, which premiered in 2018 and continues Sophie's story as she takes on a new role as a mother-to-be.

Jennifer's Body (2009)

Seyfried and Megan Fox were a duo the world never knew it needed but luckily got in 2009's Jennifer's Body. The horror film, (which has been dominating TikTok soundbites lately), follows two best friends as they hit the town one night and everything changes. Jennifer, played by Fox, is possessed by a blood-thirsty demon who devours the human flesh of her male classmates. Needy, portrayed by Seyfried, uncovers this horrendous truth and plans to put an end to the evil. It's a wildly fun film that shows astounding character development as Seyfried's character grows a spine and steps up to save those around her.

Dear John (2010)

The actor has an impressive filmography with a wide range of genres that are a testament to her ability to become a vessel for each role. The romantic film Dear John is one of those films that highlights her range. The movie is a tale as old as time and a bit cliché as times, but those are the best kind of films. It's centered around a young couple that fall in love but are separated by war and the two decide to communicate their love through handwritten letters—so romance isn't dead. Seyfried shows a softer side in this role and the chemistry between her and Channing Tatum is palpable enough to make viewers feel their yearning for each other.

A Mouthful of Air (2021)

Seyfried gives a beautifully authentic performance in A Mouthful of Air, which explores the heartbreaking reality of postpartum depression. It's an issue that still seems to be taboo today, so Seyfried tackling this difficult subject that is common among new mothers creates a space for women experiencing this very real thing. It's one of her most underrated performances, based on reality, and she is unapologetically raw in her depiction of postpartum depression.
