Adding an outlet in the bedroom, is it better to add a new box or run cable from existing box?
Hello, I'm adding a new outlet to our 2nd floor bedroom. I'm dropping down from the attic (1920's house, plaster walls). I already confirmed the cavity is not blocked. The prior owner ran a new line for the bathroom (directly on the other side of the wall I'm installing on) that I'm tapping into. There's only the 4 outlets, a light fixture, and the exhaust fan on this run. This line is directly above where I'm dropping in. There's an inline splice (not sure if that's the correct term) in a metal box about 8ft away from where I'm dropping in. Is it better to branch off the existing splice and run about 13ft of new wire down to the outlet, or add another box right above and branch from there? Additional deets: the attic currently has live knob and tube and fiberglass batt insulation poorly fitted into the floor joists. The k&t is only powering roughly 6 light fixtures and 7 or 8 outlets. I'm replacing the k&t this spring and removing the fiberglass batts and doing blown in. If I do the box at the point of the drop, i will raise the box so it will be above the eventual blown in insulation. submitted by /u/KingoftheRoosters [link] [comments]
