BALL x PIT is the first Steam Next Fest demo that’s kept me coming back for more and more

I've played a few dozen demos during Steam Next Fest over the past couple of days, and my results have varied. Some games didn't click with me at all, while others I knew I'd be wishlisting right away, but for all of them, I played them and then moved on to others. All of them but one. Say hello to BALL x PIT from Devolver Digital and solo developer Kenny Sun. Image via Devolver Digital This is my next big addiction whenever it launches, and I feel like it could be yours, too. BALL x PIT is, like many of the numerous demos I've been playing this week, an amalgamation of different games and genres. It made its debut over the weekend during all of the gaming showcases and its release date is TBA, but I'm hoping that it comes out ASAP. "Ballbylon has fallen," the Steam description says. "After a meteoric and completely unexpected event annihilated the great city, all that remains is an ominous, yawning pit. Treasure hunters from far and wide flock to the city’s tomb to seek their fortune, plumbing the depths in search of Ballbylon’s scattered riches. Few return." BALL x PIT is part brick-breaker, part base-builder, part roguelite, and all incredibly fun. You control one of a number of different unlockable characters as you enter the pit to launch balls and defeat enemies, picking up power-ups and modifiers along the way on reach run as you fight bosses and pick up gold and resources for your community. Your base can be built and customized to add new allies, buildings, and resources to farm, such as wood, crops, and rock that must be farmed in the same brick-breaking fashion as the base gameplay. It sounds odd, and it kind of is, but it works so damn well. I can't stop playing it. It also reminds me a bit of Peglin as you collect and level up different balls, while also feeling reminiscent of Vampire Survivors and other games like it as you can enable the ability to auto-attack as you move your way through the pit, picking up XP and gold, and avoiding enemy fire. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GEK4dEOAQCc Do yourself a favor and check out BALL x PIT's demo on Steam Next Fest before it's gun, and add it to your wishlist ASAP to be ready to grab your balls and go as soon as it launches.
