It was already announced that Black Mirror season 7 would be giving us a high-profile sequel to one of its biggest episodes, 2017’s Star Trek-inflected “USS Callister”. But the season 7 trailer — released by Netflix along with episode titles, cast info, and more on Monday — teased another sequel episode: a follow-up to the 2018 interactive episode Bandersnatch.
The episode, titled “Plaything,” follows an eccentric elderly man (Peter Capaldi) who’s tied to an unusual video game from the 1990s with a bunch of cute little yellow dudes — and an unsolved murder. There’s not much about how the game relates back to Bandersnatch, but in the credits is Will Poulter, once again playing Colin Ritman. The fact that the episode is so tied to the 1990s is intriguing, too; will “Plaything” confirm what the “real” ending of Bandersnatch was?
Of course, that’s far from the only guest star of note. Across the six episodes of season 7, Black Mirror is bringing in Rashida Jones, Tracee Ellis Ross, Issa Rae, Emma Corrin, Awkwafina, Harriet Walter, and Paul Giamatti. The “USS Callister” sequel (titled “USS Callister: Into Infinity”) will also bring back Cristin Milioti, Jimmi Simpson, Billy Magnussen, Osy Ikhile, Milanka Brooks, and Paul G. Raymond.
Black Mirror season 7 premieres on Netflix on April 10.
