TL;DR
- Black Ops 6 was released in October 2024, and another iteration is likely in development.
- Leaks and rumours point towards Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 being set in 2035.
- Black Ops 7 may be a sequel to Black Ops 2.

Ever since the original Black Ops was released in 2010, the series has been a core part of the larger Call of Duty franchise. Though Black Ops 6 is still receiving content updates, the next iteration could be just around the corner, and quite a bit has leaked about the unannounced title.
We’re going to walk you through the latest Black Ops 7 leaks circulating around the COD community, along with when it might be released.
What is Call of Duty: Black Ops 7?
Black Ops is one of two long-standing franchises within the Call of Duty universe, alongside the Modern Warfare series. The first title was released in 2010, and since then, there have been new iterations every few years. COD: Black Ops 7 is the likely name of the next Black Ops game, though it could be titled differently, similar to 2020’s Black Ops Cold War.
Regardless of its official name, Black Ops 7 could go in a few directions with its story and gameplay, but rumours are indicating that it will take COD back to the futuristic format, which was previously implemented in Advanced Warfare, Black Ops 3, and Infinite Warfare.
When is Black Ops 7’s release date?
Black Ops 7 hasn’t yet been officially revealed by Activision, so the release date is only speculation as of June 2025. Despite a lack of confirmed info, previous COD release dates point towards a release window between 2025 and 2027, as Activision usually releases a new Black Ops game every few years.
Everything we know about Black Ops 7
Over the last few months, Insider Gaming and independent leakers have slowly revealed a plethora of details surrounding Black Ops 7 and its story. Between zombies, multiplayer, and the campaign, there’s a lot to dive into in BO7.
An alleged playtester on Reddit, Bigbyy, has leaked a significant amount about Black Ops 7, and many of the details have been corroborated by previous leaks reported by Tom Henderson at Insider Gaming, a reliable figure in the gaming industry.
Nostalgic campaign: A follow-up to Black Ops 2
According to Insider Gaming, the seventh instalment of the Black Ops series will likely be a follow-up to the Black Ops 2 storyline, and it’ll be set in 2035. Black Ops 2 is arguably the most notable Call of Duty in history due to its high popularity and innovative zombie maps, like Tranzit.
That’s not all though, as the details leaked by Bigbyy also revealed that the campaign may offer an open-world map, 4-player co-op, and even the return of popular Black Ops characters Mason and Woods. The overall combat trend will seemingly shift towards futuristic movement, so we could see a return to Infinite Warfare’s gameplay style.
Multiplayer combat: Futuristic movement
One of the biggest details revealed by Bigbyy is that Black Ops 7 could take Black Ops 6’s omni-movement a step further by adding new ways to move around the battlefield, such as wall-running. X leaker, @CODWarfareForum, has also posted pictures of an alleged datamine containing the words: “AllowWallRun,” which further validates these claims.
Black Ops 3 featured similar aerial movement for soldiers, and it’s not out of the realm of possibility that there would be double-jumping or wall-running capabilities in a fictional version of 2035. Pairing futuristic movement with the 32v32 multiplayer mode could result in a massive PvP playground for dozens of players, similar to Battlefield.
Paid LTM events
More limited-time multiplayer modes could be on the way in Black Ops 7 as well, as leaker @TheGhostOfHope has posted that Activision may charge players in order to participate in certain in-game events by requiring the purchase of a reward pass.
Zombie leaks: A Tranzit remake could be coming
Tranzit is one of the most popular things about Black Ops 2, and Bigbyy has apparently revealed that it’s receiving a remake in BO7. This zombie map featured a rideable bus that you could use to travel to new locales, so it’s one of the biggest maps in COD zombies ever.
A spiritual successor could also be on the horizon for Tranzit, as a feedback session leak shared by Insider Gaming uncovered that Black Ops 7 will have a giant zombies map with a Tranzit-like way to travel. Additionally, the report indicated that six different zombie maps are coming in Black Ops 7.
Dempsey to make a return in Black Ops 7
According to Insider Gaming, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 playtesters have revealed that the original zombies crew could make a return, including Dempsey, though they may be different variants of the characters.
Black Ops 7 could break records

Black Ops 6 had one of the best releases for a COD game ever, partly due to its availability on Game Pass at launch. The next Black Ops could receive a similar reception, especially if it’s a continuation of Black Ops 2’s story.
As Call of Duty continues to innovate and increase its availability on Game Pass, the Black Ops series will only get bigger, which could bring millions of new fans into the FPS esports scene. In the end, Black Ops 7 will likely be one of the biggest Game Pass launches ever, so stay tuned for further news from Esports Insider.
FAQs
The next Black Ops title hasn’t been officially revealed yet, so a release date is still up in the air. Based on previous release schedules, a hypothetical Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 release date would probably fall between 2025 and 2027, while October or November is a likely bet for the release month.
If leaks reported by Insider Gaming prove true, then Black Ops 7 will be set in 2035 and feature advanced forms of movement, like wall running. Characters like Mason and Woods may make a return, too.
