  • Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls is a new 4v4 tag-fighter from Arc System Works.
  • The game is set to be released in 2026 and offers fresh interpretations of iconic heroes and villains, including Iron Man, Captain America, Doctor Doom, and Ghost Rider.
  • The developers promise a focus on accessibility and have streamlined the combat system to make it easier to master characters and their abilities.
  • Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls will only be released on PS5 and PC.
  • It features a stunning Japanimation-style visual design that will please manga and anime fans.

It’s almost been a decade since we last saw a Marvel vs Capcom game. At Sony’s State of Play event in June 2025, Arc System Works upped the ante and revealed Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, a 2.5D fighting game with a 4v4 setup that surprised fighting game fans. The game promises a diverse roster of superheroes and villains, each dishing out combos across environments familiar to Marvel fans.

Fighting Souls’ Japanimation-style visual design made it my personal highlight of Sony’s event. It’s about time we got a fresh take on Marvel’s roster of comic book fan-favourites, and I’m glad the Guilty Gear Strive developers are in charge of it. Read on for a detailed primer on what we know about Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls’ release window, its key gameplay features, and other confirmed details.

When could Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls be released?

Confirmed for 2026; exact release window and date: TBC

We expect Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls’ release date to be sometime in 2026 based on the reveal trailer. Although there is no specific release date yet, we anticipate it will be released towards the end of the year. That’s because Marvel’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Avengers: Doomsday have their release dates set at July and December 2026, respectively. Arc System Works could potentially leverage the marketing efforts of these films to garner more attention, especially from fans unfamiliar with fighting games.

It’s been a while since players got to take control of Marvel characters in a fighting game. While the Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics was released last September, it only featured older titles like Marvel Super Heroes (1995) and Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes (1998). Keep an eye on this page for the latest announcements for the Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls release date.

Are Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls’ price & pre-orders confirmed?

Official pricing and pre-orders are yet to go live; expected to cost $60-70

We currently don’t have any information regarding the final Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls price. Pre-orders aren’t available yet on supported platforms either. Based on Arc System Works’ pedigree in the genre with hits like Guilty Gear Strive and Dragon Ball FighterZ, we expect Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls to be priced at the more conventional rates of either $59.99 or $69.99, though this is unconfirmed.

It’s highly unlikely that they would consider Marvel Rivals’ F2P route, which includes battle passes and paid cosmetics. Instead, expansions with new characters and cosmetics could be how Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls is monetised. Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls pre-orders will go live once a release date is confirmed, which is unlikely to happen this year.

Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls platforms

Confirmed only for PS5 and PC

Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls will be released on PS5 and PC. That means players will be able to get the game via the PlayStation Store, Steam, and the Epic Games Store. Arc System Works didn’t mention an Xbox Series X/S or a Nintendo Switch 2 port in its trailer, which rules them out (for now).

While it’s true that trailers revealed at Sony’s events tend to skip the Xbox logo on multi-platform titles, we think Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls won’t make it to Microsoft’s consoles since the game is a joint effort from PlayStation Studios, Arc System Works, and Marvel Games. This also means that the Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls platforms list is somewhat limited.

Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls trailer & details

The explosive Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls trailer at Sony’s State of Play event gave us our first look at Arc System Works’ reimagination of classic Marvel characters. While the fighting game genre can be unforgiving when it comes to memorising combos and timing inputs, Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls intends to streamline this process with its 4v4 teamfights that let you seamlessly switch between characters.

In a PlayStation Blog post, Game Director and Lead Battle Designer, Kazuto Sekine, notes they “… have designed the mechanics in such a way that you can perform a variety of actions with either traditional fighting game inputs or simple inputs. With the press of a few buttons, multiple characters can appear on screen to provide backup or attack together, creating a new and exciting team VS battle experience.” Another trailer offers a behind-the-scenes look at the game’s core mechanics with commentary from Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls developers.

The short trailer confirms characters like a Gundam-inspired variant of Iron Man, a Star-Lord with elemental powers similar to his comic book counterpart, and a redesigned Captain America. Other characters include Ms. Marvel, Ghost Rider, Storm, Doctor Doom, and Spider-Man. Arc Producer, Takeshi Yamanaka, teased more announcements for the Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls roster, including “characters who have never been playable in a fighting game before.”

While Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls gameplay details are slim at the moment, characters will feature Normal, Special, and Unique attacks based on their powers in Marvel lore. They will also have Ultimate skills that can cause some serious damage, especially with multiple characters on screen at once. Players have already begun comparing its roster to 2XKO, Riot Games’ upcoming 2v2 team-based fighting game with League of Legends Champions. While Riot Games intends to enter the genre via the free-to-play route, it remains to be seen if Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls will abandon a price tag.

Expected Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls system requirements

System requirements have yet to be announced, but they are expected to be moderate

Arc System Works has yet to reveal official Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls system requirements; however, expect the PC port to require a 64-bit operating system like Windows 11. Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising (2023), a fighting game from the same developers, could give us a clue of what to expect from the studio’s upcoming fighter.

Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising’s minimum requirements suggest an AMD FX-4350 or an Intel Core i5-3470, which are fairly pedestrian expectations in the processor department. On the graphics front, you’ll need an AMD Radeon HD 6870 or Nvidia GeForce GTX 650 Ti with 1 GB of dedicated memory. Its 4 GB RAM and 20 GB storage space requirements aren’t particularly intensive either.

Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls’ 4v4 character combat will naturally raise these requirements, but it shouldn’t stray too far from these specifications if it aspires to become a mainstay in the tournament scene. Performance-boosting technologies like Nvidia’s DLSS frame generation tend to increase latency, making them a suboptimal choice for fighting games. If you’ve got an ageing machine, it might be worth holding off on that Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls pre-order until we have more concrete information.

Conclusion

While a 4v4 tag fighting game may sound unapproachable to newcomers, we’re looking forward to how Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls will bring teamfights to the masses. We still don’t know how its efforts to simplify its combat schemes will work, but it’s definitely worth keeping an eye on.

Its strong visual identity has already made Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls one of 2026’s most anticipated titles. The right support from Marvel would let it compete with established behemoths like Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter.
