Call of Duty League Major 4 preview: Momentum for Miami, can OpTic find form?

After three successful events, the 2025 Call of Duty League (CDL) season is heading towards its conclusion with the fourth Major LAN event of the Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 cycle.

As part of DreamHack Dallas, the 12 franchised teams will descend on the Kay Bailey Hutchinson Convention Center from May 23rd to 25th, for the final chance to secure the four remaining places at Championship Weekend.

Ahead of Call of Duty League Major 4, Esports Insider takes a closer look at everything there is to know about the event, including the main talking points as the fight for Champs continues to heat up.

Call of Duty League Major 4 is the final time all teams will compete in a double-elimination bracket and battle it out in best-of-five matches. The Grand Final will then feature a best-of-seven series to determine the eventual champion.

The event begins with the top seed, Miami Heretics, taking on Minnesota Rokkr. The latter still has a mathematical chance of securing a place at Champs if it can make a deep run in the Major. A maximum of 100 CDL Points are on offer to the franchise that wins the event.

Miami Heretics heads into Major 4 as the team to beat after cruising through the online qualifiers with five victories and no losses to its name. After scoring a top-four finish at Major 2, the all-Spanish roster has an opportunity to continue its impressive run of form.

Since adding Diego ‘SupeR’ Escudero to the starting lineup in March, the franchise has shown it can compete against the top North American talent.

Miami is on the cusp of securing a place at Champs, and if it continues its winning ways, there’s a strong chance it becomes one of the eight teams competing for the CDL’s biggest prize.

Only 110 CDL Points separate five teams that are still in contention for a place at the season-ending tournament. Depending on the performances of the Carolina Royal Ravens, Boston Breach, OpTic Texas, Minnesota Rokkr, and Cloud9 New York, the standings at the end of the tournament could look significantly different.

After a strong start to the season, the Royal Ravens still have a chance of Champs qualification. Despite this, a disappointing set of online qualifiers resulting in one victory out of five puts the team at risk of being dumped towards the bottom of the table.

In contrast, Boston Breach has recorded a better second half of the season, with consecutive top-six finishes at Major 2 and Major 3 giving the franchise a fighting chance. A 2-3 record during qualifiers resulted in 20 valuable points, narrowly missing out on a place in the winner’s bracket.

The Black Ops 6 season has been far from smooth sailing for OpTic Texas. As a result of the struggles, the Green Wall sits in eighth place in the CDL standings heading into Major 4.

At the start of May, Mason ‘Mercules’ Ramsey became the latest player to join the fan-favourite franchise as it looked to rekindle the form that saw it win the 2024 CDL Championship. Upon arrival, the signs of a swing in momentum are positive for OpTic Texas, scoring three wins during the qualifiers including notable victories against Toronto Ultra and Vancouver Surge.

As the third seed for Major 4, OpTic Texas begins its campaign with a rematch against Toronto, the former home of Mercules, in what could be a hard-fought contest. A win all but guarantees the Green Wall’s presence at Champs, but an early defeat against a strong Toronto side could result in an uphill battle.
