Chase Sapphire Reserve Changes Coming Summer 2025

Chase has officially revealed that it plans to refresh its popular Chase Sapphire Reserve®, though details are limited…

What we know about Chase Sapphire Reserve refresh

This week, Chase is teasing how it’ll be refreshing the Chase Sapphire Reserve as of the summer of 2025. In one Instagram post, the card issuer simply wrote “Rewards are about to get more rewarding.” Meanwhile another Instagram post features Claudia Schiffer, and shows what appears to be a new card design.

While we’ve heard a lot of rumors, we should officially find out the details of the updated card soon. Separately, we’ve learned about plans for a Chase Sapphire Business Card, also launching this summer. So the Chase Sapphire Reserve portfolio should look a lot different in a few months than it does now, between a new card being introduced, and the existing one being changed.

What’s likely driving premium card changes

In recent years, we’ve seen a premium credit card “arms race” of sorts, whereby card issuers are competing to create the most compelling product. These cards have become exponentially more popular with travelers over the years, and many card issuers view this as a key part to building a closer relationship with customers.

The thing is, some premium cards aren’t actually as profitable for card issuers as one might assume. Sure, they might have steep annual fees, but for a card like the Chase Sapphire Reserve, you have really lucrative spending bonus categories, and the perks are easy to use. Furthermore, people aren’t necessarily financing charges on premium cards to the levels that have been seen in the past.

So while it remains to be seen what exactly the Chase Sapphire Reserve refresh will entail, the general trend across the industry has been pretty consistent — annual fees have gone up, and we’ve seen an increasing number of perks funded largely by third parties, and with barriers to use.

The changes might in fact make the card better for some, though I’d imagine that a primary motivation here is to improve the card’s economics for Chase.

Changes will likely be about improving card economics

Bottom line

The Chase Sapphire Reserve Card is expected to undergo a refresh soon. Chase is promising that “rewards are about to get more rewarding,” though we don’t yet have any details beyond that. Between this and the introduction of the Chase Sapphire Reserve Business Card, it should be a pretty exciting summer for Chase’s premium card portfolio.
