You’ll get a nice bonus if you purchase a Delta Air Lines gift card right now.
In honor of Father’s Day, Delta is offering a new promotion to help you get a free (or partially free) Uber ride or Uber Eats. All you have to do is purchase a Delta gift card worth at least $300 to receive a $25 Uber voucher as a reward.
Deal basics
Airline: Delta Air Lines.
How to earn: Purchase a Delta gift card worth at least $300 using this link to receive a $25 electronic Uber and Uber Eats gift card.
How to use: Delta gift cards can only be used for airfare, including taxes, fees and surcharges. They cannot be used for inflight purchases, premium seating or fare upgrades.
Purchase by: 11:59 p.m. EDT on June 23.
Use by: The Uber voucher code is valid through Dec. 31. Delta gift cards do not expire.
The fine print: This promotion is only available to U.S. residents age 18 or older and can only be purchased once during the promotional period.
You’ll receive the Uber voucher code in a separate email from the Delta gift card, and you can use it for Uber and Uber Eats, up to the maximum value.
As you can see below, once I purchased the card and entered my personal information, I received the notification that my $300 Delta gift card and $25 Uber voucher were processing.
Maximize your purchase
Remember to use a credit card that can earn you points or miles in addition to a free Starbucks coffee.
Unfortunately, the card purchase doesn’t code as “airline,” so you won’t get bonus miles for the spend.
Gift card purchases don’t typically code as travel, so you are out of luck if you are trying to earn additional points for travel purchases.
However, certain cards can maximize your points earnings with merchants that sell gift cards, including:
- Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express: 6% cash back at U.S. supermarkets on the first $6,000 spent each calendar year, then 1%. Cash back is received in the form of reward dollars that can be redeemed as a statement credit or at Amazon.com checkout
- Ink Business Cash® Credit Card (see rates and fees): 5% cash back on the first $25,000 spent in combined purchases at office supply stores and on internet, cable and phone services each account anniversary
- American Express® Gold Card: 4 points per dollar on the first $25,000 spent at U.S. supermarkets each calendar year, then 1 point per dollar
- Bank of America® Customized Cash Rewards credit card: 6% cash back (for the first year, then 3%) on the first $2,500 per quarter in combined purchases in the category of your choosing (then 1%)
- Costco Anywhere Visa® Card by Citi (see rates and fees): 2% cash back on purchases from Costco and costco.com
Bottom line
This is a pretty good deal since you are getting essentially about 8% back for that $300 dollar spend for Delta. With this limited-time deal from Delta and Uber, you can earn a $25 Uber voucher after buying a $300 (or more) Delta gift card.
I’ve found these gift cards fairly easy to use, since I regularly fly Delta. Just make sure you don’t forget the email confirmation. I recommend it putting it an “important” folder somewhere or saving the details in a Word or Google doc.
