American Airlines recently unveiled its swanky, new Flagship Suites, a business-class product on board the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft.

In early May, we alerted readers to some award availability to fly this new product priced at 55,000 American Airlines AAdvantage miles. While we didn’t expect this deal to last, there is currently amazing award availability to London throughout the peak summer months, with up to nine seats available in business class on select flights.

But if you don’t have AAdvantage miles, there is a bit of a work-around that you can use to book a suite at this price point. You can transfer American Express Membership Rewards points to HawaiianMiles, then transfer your Hawaiian Airlines miles to Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan. However, the ability to transfer Amex points to HawaiianMiles will end June 30, so book now if you want to secure your ticket to London this summer at this award price.

You can also check Google Flights to see which specific flights from ORD and PHL the Flagship Suites will operate on — look for the “Individual suite” designation rather than “Lie flat seat.”

Flights from ORD and PHL are available for 55,000 Alaska miles.

Or, for the same number of miles, you can connect from many American Airlines destinations via ORD or PHL.

You can book these flights online through the Alaska website. However, remember that card transfers to partner programs like HawaiianMiles cannot be reversed, so ensure you find availability before transferring points.

How to earn the points and miles required for TPG’s deal of the day

Until June 30, the HawaiianMiles program is a 1:1 transfer partner of American Express Membership Rewards points, which you can currently transfer to Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan.

Here are some great card welcome offers that earn Membership Rewards points:

  • American Express® Gold Card: Earn 60,000 Membership Rewards points after spending $6,000 on purchases in the first six months of card membership.
  • The Platinum Card® from American Express: Earn 80,000 Membership Rewards points after spending $8,000 on purchases in your first six months of card membership. However, some readers have been targeted for up to a 175,000-point bonus using the CardMatch tool (offer subject to change at any time). Terms apply.
  • The Business Platinum Card® from American Express: Earn 150,000 points after spending $20,000 on eligible purchases within the first three months of card membership. Plus, earn a $500 statement credit after spending $2,500 on qualifying flights booked directly with airlines or through American Express Travel® in the first three months of card membership. You can earn one or both of these offers, which end June 30.

Or, you can earn Alaska miles directly with these cards:

  • Alaska Airlines Visa Signature® credit card: Receive a 30% flight discount code for a qualifying future flight after opening a new account, and earn 60,000 bonus miles plus Alaska’s Companion Fare ($99 fare plus taxes and fees from $23) after spending $3,000 or more on purchases within the first 90 days from opening an account.
  • Alaska Airlines Visa® Business card: Earn 60,000 bonus miles and Alaska’s Companion Fare ($99 fare plus taxes and fees from $23) after spending $4,000 or more on purchases within the first 90 days from opening a new account.

Bottom line

July and August in London are traditionally peak travel periods, and programs that dynamically price business-class redemptions, such as American Airlines AAdvantage and Delta SkyMiles, can charge upward of 200,000-plus miles each way for summer flights to London.

So, flying American’s newest product on these dates, booking only a few months in advance for just 55,000 miles plus minimal fees and taxes, is rare and a terrific deal.

With the ability to transfer Amex Membership Rewards points to Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan via HawaiianMiles ending soon, now is a great time to stamp your passport and fly on American’s new Flagship Suites to London.
