[DIY] Building a modular string light system with moveable sockets — feedback welcome
I’ve started building a custom modular string light system for outdoor use (gardens, weddings, campers, etc.) — and I wanted to share the concept and get your thoughts. Most string lights come with fixed socket spacing (like every 50 cm), which makes it frustrating when you're working with irregular layouts — like wrapping around trees, beams, pergolas or camper setups. My DIY solution: A flat dual-wire cable Clip-on sockets with a “vampire”-style piercing connector You can place each socket exactly where you want Fully waterproof (IP65 goal) Powered by 12V or 24V DC (battery or solar compatible) I'm planning two versions: Basic E27 socket (so you can use any bulb) Premium sealed RGB LED version (controllable via app)
