Do we need to do construction on the wall or just get the right TV mount?
We want to reorient our living room so that the tv is in the corner of the fireplace instead of the back wall. It would be so nice to put the couch along the back wall and open up so much space. We currently have a 65” TV mounted to the back wall. We don’t really use the fireplace (told it’s not safe and we get hot in this unit), and our realtor suggested that we remove the fireplace and square out the corner or at least remove/square off the weird angle above the fireplace (there’s no ventilation, so should be an option). I do hate the mantel/how it sticks out into the window sills, but we plan to move in 2-3 years (hence asking the realtor), so not sure that’s worth so much construction. We’re redoing our kitchen and windows are being replaced in the while building soon, so we are ok with construction in that corner if needed. But I feel like we could figure out how to mount the TV in that corner over the fireplace as is... it would obviously save us money, time, and effort - but the realtor doesn’t see it and said the tv would stick out too much if centered in the corner. And I do get the idea of making more space in that corner… we’re obviously a bit torn and hoping for some insight here! Pictured is the corner fireplace as it is + a rough sketch of measurements. I don’t know the exact angle, I’d guess something like 225°? Also included a pic of the tv and current mount if that’s helpful. Specific questions would be: Would you mount the TV in the corner as-is or do some construction to make it a flat wall for an easier mount and maybe more storage? If you would mount the tv in the existing space, would you move the current mount or get something different? If you’d use a different mount, what recs do you have? (I’ve done some early research on corner mounts but not sure if we need that or something like we already have with a smaller footprint on the wall). Appreciate any thoughts and advice on this one, thank you! submitted by /u/Dry_Engineering1556 [link] [comments]
