The 10 Best Slasher Movies to Fuel Your Fear This Summer

The summer heat calls for a chilling slasher flick—and luckily, there’s a new reason to stay inside with the air conditioning blasting. I Know What You Did Last Summer is officially back, with a legacy sequel hitting theaters July 18, 2025. Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. reprise their iconic roles as Julie and Ray nearly three decades after the events of the original 1997 cult hit. This time, they’re guiding a new generation through another deadly summer, as the message—“I know what you did last summer”—comes back to haunt a fresh group of victims.

Directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson and co-written with Leah McKendrick and Sam Lansky, the film is part nostalgia, part new nightmare, with rising stars like Madelyn Cline, Chase Sui Wonders, Lola Tung, Tyriq Withers, Gabbriette, and Sarah Pidgeon stepping into the terror.

But while you count down the days until the new movie, now’s the perfect time to revisit (or finally watch) the scary, slasher movie staples that paved the way. Think Wes Craven’s Scream, the gory scenes from American Psycho, the slow-burn suspense of Halloween, or the modernized kills in A24's 2022 film Bodies, Bodies, Bodies. Even the original I Know What You Did Last Summer is worth a rewatch just for its peak '90s fashion moments alone.

So when the sun’s too brutal and your iced coffee isn’t cutting it, queue up a chilling, bloody good marathon, (and save your spot in theaters for July 18). Keep scrolling to see the 10 best slasher movies worth a watch.
