Flip a door vertically to protect veneer?

I want to color drench a hallway that has these orange-y veneer closet doors. However, I don't want to ruin the veneer fronts by painting them because they're all around the house and in flawless condition, and have a beautiful grain that has aged consistently over the past 60+ years. I'm researching ideas and have read up on paintable peel and stick wallpaper for doors but I worry the sticker will somehow damage the "patina" currently on the doors and who knows if the paint won't seep through a seam. https://preview.redd.it/ysbbphwqe6ie1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2fbe248fbf32fca55f3f937a33ada39f60a32fa0 My second idea I'm here to ask is: Would it be worth it, or possible, to flip the doors vertically? In that way, the knob and hinges stay on the same sides of the door way but the front face can be preserved inside the closet and while the other side could be painted. I guess I'd have to reverse the the swing of the door and potentially carve in a new mount in the frame. Thoughts? https://preview.redd.it/gn81okmte6ie1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ebb0c4d954e5da34a22385b013eb2680c1a5e0d2 Two of the hall doors lead to a bathroom and a bedroom. I'm not worried if one side is painted inside those rooms. I just want all the doors to return to their original veneer side when preferred. Or, do you have a third idea for protecting the veneer? submitted by /u/Jinja9 [link] [comments]
