Garmin says that the new Instinct 3 Solar gets "more than five times the battery life of its predecessor" while solar charging, though this is dependent on which mode the watch is being used in.Garmin has stated that its new watches have been "designed with adventurers in mind" and both models have been built to the United States Military's "MIL-STD-810" standard. The watches are constructed with fiber-reinforced polymer cases and include newly designed metal bezels for extra durability, with the brand also claiming the screens are "scratch-resistant".
