How to burn brambles in Avowed (On Strange Shores)
Brambles first show up in the ‘On Strange Shores’ main quest, right at the beginning of your adventure. These pesky plants block your way and can’t be hacked through with your trusty axe or other melee weapon. Here’s how to find a way to burn the brambles in Avowed. How to burn the brambles in Avowed’s ‘On Strange Shores’ quest Look above where the brambles are and you’ll see a little plant growing with glowing orange fruits called Magran’s Fury. Hitting this will cause the fruits to drop and set fire to the brambles below. You can’t hit them with your melee weapon, as they’re too high up. If you didn’t start with one (your class determines your starting weapon), go to the room with the prison cells where you spoke to Ilora, and head to the back of this room where the blocked door is to the officer’s room is. To the left of this door, you’ll find some crates to climb up on. Climb up the first two, then turn around and jump up to the platform above the locked door to the officer’s room. Head through the gap in the wall right ahead of you, but rather than jumping through the hole in the floor into the office (behind the locked door), take a left. Image via Destructoid This will bring you to an upper level of the room with the brambles in it. Conveniently, you’ll find a corpse with a bow next to them on the floor. Pick up this bow, equip it, and then fire an arrow at the Magran’s Fury. Image via Destructoid After a little bit of burning, the brambles will disappear and you’ll be free to continue on your quest. Using the Grimoire to burn the brambles You’ll encounter some more brambles a bit later on in this quest. Just next to them is another corpse with a wand and a grimoire that you can pick up. The Grimoire allows you to cast different elemental spells. Equip this in an off-hand slot from the inventory menu, then press and hold LT, and then press A while aiming at the Brambles to burn them with a fire spell. Image via Destructoid Alternatively, if you look up and to the left of the brambles, you’ll spot some Magran’s Fury you can shoot down. I’m not going to lie, I didn’t figure out how to use the Grimoire until after I’d spotted the Magran’s Fury, so just used my bow to shoot it down and burn the brambles as I did in the first instance. Image via Destructoid After completing 'On Strange Shores', you'll soon meet Kai, your first companion in the game. He has an ability called 'Firestarter' which allows you to set fire to brambles and other obstacles or enemies. This can be activated by pressing LB and then selecting the ability from the radial wheel that appears. As long as you've got Kai by your side, you'll never have problems burning brambles again.
