Getting a Worm Tooth in Dune: Awakening pushes you to do one of the most counterintuitive things in the game, and while the process is quick, you’ll need to be prepared for it so you don’t lose much progress. It’s worth the effort if you want a powerful melee weapon, though that also comes with some caveats.

Below, we explain how to get a Worm Tooth in Dune: Awakening and what to use it for.

How to get a Worm Tooth in Dune: Awakening

A player character in Dune Awakening, about to be eaten by a sandworm

The only way to get a Worm Tooth is to get it from a sandworm, and since there’s no method of fighting back against the hulking behemoths, that means letting a sandworm eat you. There’s nothing you actually need to do once the worm approaches other than not run away. When you respawn, you’ll have a Worm Tooth in your possession, unless this was the first time a sandworm eats you.

If that’s the case, you’ll wake up in a dream world of sorts and get reprimanded by the spirit of a Fremen. He’ll also give you the tools to make a sandbike, though, which is a handy trade-off for the lecture. A map image showing where to find sandworms in Dune Awakening

As for where to find a sandworm, lingering too long in any open desert area will eventually attract a worm’s attention. Flour sand locations are your best bet, as it seems a worm is guaranteed to show up as soon as you enter the vicinity, and there’s an easily accessible spot in Eastern Vermillius Gap west of The Anvil where you can get flour sand and a worm appearance.

But first, a warning.

Being eaten by a sandworm destroys everything in your possession, and there’s no way to get it back. Before you go worm hunting, make sure you remove all equipment – that includes clothes and tools – and put it in a storage container and do the same with all the items in your backpack. If you have a storage module for your sandbike, it holds more than the standard storage chests, so consider using that instead of crafting half a dozen chests and crates.

The Worm Tooth is an essential crafting ingredient for making an Unfixed Crysknife, though you won’t get the schematic for crafting one until you complete the Fourth Trial. Bear in mind that this is an Unfixed Crysknife, which in the Duneiverse means that it’s brittle and prone to falling apart – which it does after a handful of uses.

You’ll want to either craft several of these before heading into combat or bring it out only when necessary, then repair it in your item repair machine before using it again. The fact that crafting one only takes a single plant fiber and one Worm Tooth means you could feasibly craft a lot of them quickly. If you do, just make sure you equip them in the radial for easy access during combat, since you can’t pause Dune: Awakening.
