How to go about VERY long curtain rods?
Hello guys, Sorry, first time posting, might not be the last you see of me in the next few weeks, though, as I have absolutely no one to bounce my ideas to for a couple of upcoming projects! I have to replace curtain rods in my bedroom: a while back, when they were barely two (and about 10 killos), my child pulled the existing ones out of the wall by just falling and trying to catch his balance on them. I guess this was a combination of inappropriate plugs (they literally didn't "blow" in the wall) as well as inappropriate support for the rods (cheap metallic ones from IKEA). Fast forward, I am trying to do that better. The main challenge I am facing is that I need to cover a very large surface, the windows are over 2m long, which leads to the curtains being quite sizeable, and as they are opaque to prevent light to come in, they are significantly heavy. Ideally, I would need to have a double set of curtains, a light transparent one for daytime to let light come in and offer a form of privacy, the opaque one for night time. My approach so far: I am considering using brackets such as these which I (maybe wrongly) assume should offer better support than the ones I had in the past (similar to these). Would it make sense? Not using the screws and plugs provided: in retrospect, I think most of them are planned for drywall, and I have to set them directly in beton. Therefore, buy the right diameter, but potentially slightly longer screws with appropriate plugs. As far as the rods are concerned, I am a bit perplex. I still have both the original ones (Ikea telescopic rods) that are in a decent shape. Should I reuse them, or would I be better off getting new plain ones cut to size to reduce the risk of the rods failing at the junction of the telescopic part? Sorry again, I am well ware those must be absolutely nonsensical questions to the experts of this sub, but like I said, no one around me can help me making these decisions. submitted by /u/Myrhdin [link] [comments]
