How to Hang this mirror with a French cleat?
I just got this frame off of Facebook Marketplace thinking it was an antique with a wooden frame. I realized the frame is actually molded plastic with a thick paper-board backing, which makes it lighter (under 100lbs) but harder to hang. I’m wanting to hang it with a French cleat, but I’m running into a few issues: Because the frame is made of molded plastic, I can’t just drill ANYWHERE into the frame to attach the French cleat The most secure option I’m assuming would be to attach the French cleat using the screws that secure the backboard to the frame. These screws have dedicated channels that are molded into the frame. The longest French cleat I can get from Home Depot is 42”. The mirror is about 65” wide. The only screws that I can use with a French cleat this length are the two in the middle (circled in red). I’m concerned this isn’t going to be secure enough as it’s less than 1/3 the width of the entire mirror. So what are my options here? Do I have to order a custom length French cleat? https://preview.redd.it/hmh12unf7uye1.jpg?width=3072&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7dd7b2ee69ce06094efdc149e18dd3290470ddfc https://preview.redd.it/b3rybvnf7uye1.jpg?width=3072&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c2a8cc02c4982cce1a0292e0f06eaab8511c18e3 https://preview.redd.it/0gxa9wnf7uye1.jpg?width=3072&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=04f7fdc3357f0abed7af1f429a66e60384d0512c https://preview.redd.it/jyhd1sof7uye1.jpg?width=3072&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=34efdcb3dc828e2845a2840e1fbbbeeb2cfd6e7e submitted by /u/lilyver [link] [comments]
