How to read water softener settings and set a regen timeline?

Hi All, I have very hard water even with a water softener that is leaving some mineral deposits in the shower. I learned that having the water softener regenerate more often can help with this, but I have no idea how to even address that! A plumber was here a couple months ago doing general maintenance and mentioned that there might have been salt build up along the bottom, so we had let it go down low and broke up the pieces before filling it back up about half full now. Here's a picture of my water softener screen. I was able to set the right time by using the up arrow. What does the 534 mean? Gallons used so far this cycle? And how can I change when it decides to regenerate / what should a good number of days or gallons be? There are two adults here in my household. Thanks for any advice! Been a homeowner about a year now and am trying to learn how to do more things on my own. submitted by /u/FazedDazedCrazed [link] [comments]
