Hugh Jackman’s Ex-Wife Deborra-Lee Furness Speaks Out After Their Divorce Finalized

Australian actor Deborra-Lee Furness is speaking out for the first time since her separation from Australian actor and singer Hugh Jackman, addressing the heartbreak of "betrayal" as divorce proceedings between the longtime couple near their final stage.

Furness and Jackman were married for 27 years before announcing their separation in September 2023. At the time, the couple released a joint statement noting their relationship was shifting and that they had made the decision to part ways “to pursue our individual growth.” They share two children together—son Oscar and daughter Ava.

On Tuesday, May 27, Furness said, “My heart and compassion goes out to everyone who has traversed the traumatic journey of betrayal,” calling the split “a profound wound that cuts deep," per a statement shared with The Daily Mail.

The latest development follows growing speculation around Hugh Jackman, 56, and his former Music Man co-star Sutton Foster, with whom he shares a longtime Broadway history dating back to the early 2000s. Romance rumors first sparked when the two were photographed holding hands during a low-key dinner in Santa Monica this past January—just months after Foster herself filed for divorce from her husband of 10 years, screenwriter Ted Griffin. 

Most recently, Jackman and his rumored girlfriend were spotted hand-in-hand once again, this time the pair was in New York City on May 17. While neither Jackman nor Foster has confirmed the relationship, the two have shared fond words for each other, mainly in a professional context. 

While the chapter may be closing on Furness and Jackman's decades-long marriage, it’s clear the emotions—and headlines—are still unfolding.
