Inside Sophie Elgort's 'Portrait Mode' Party in NYC

Sophie Elgort threw a party Thursday night in New York City to celebrate her latest venture.

The photographer debuted a new series in February, titled Portrait Mode with Sophie Elgort, which is now streaming on PBS' All Arts. The four-part show is about going behind the scenes with creatives to see their process. Those featured include musician Nile Rodgers, 93-year-old actor Rita Moreno, famed photographer (and Sophie's dad) Arthur Elgort, and Skylar Brandt, a principal dancer at the American Ballet Theatre.

Elgort hosted the fête at Lingua Franca's West Village townhouse, alongside the fashion brand's founder, Rachelle Hruska MacPherson. Beyond the abundant charcuterie spreads, Lalo Tequila drinks, and Wölffer Estate Vineyard wines, one of Lingua Franca's classic lettered sweaters was on display, just in theme, reading "portrait mode." Guests included those featured in Portrait Mode, minus Moreno, in addition to model Christian Arciga, New York Fashion Week founder Fern Mallis, Jalil Johnson, Ann Dexter-Jones, and designer Nicole Miller.

"The concept came together because my favorite part of photography is getting to know the subject through the photoshoot process, not only by what they say during our conversations throughout, but also by seeing them in action," Elgort tells L'OFFICIEL over email. "We wanted to create this show to offer a window into this process and offer viewers the chance to get to know these remarkable artists in a unique way. A few favorite moments include Nile Rodgers riffing on his hitmaker guitar and Rita Moreno spontaneously covering a jazz song a cappella, mid-shoot."
