Is Avowed playable on the Steam Deck?
We're only a few weeks into 2025 and already we've been getting some pretty solid games coming our way. Along with Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, many of us have also been enjoying Obsidian's latest RPG, Avowed. If you were lucky enough to get the game in Early Access, you've had a chance to get a head start on those of us who waited until the official release date. Still, at least it became available on Game Pass, so we've got that going for us. Of course, not everyone is playing on console, so what about those who've been exploring Eora on PC? Better yet, for those who have a Steam Deck, you may be wondering whether Avowed is compatible with Valve's mobile system. Now, according to the game's Steam page, Avowed is considered "playable" on the device. For those who aren't aware, there are basically three tiers for determining compatibility on the Steam Deck: "verified," which means it'll run without any issues, as intended (almost as if you're just playing it on a home PC), while "playable" means it will run, but you may encounter some issues. There's also "unsupported," which is self-explanatory, but doesn't necessarily mean there isn't a workaround. In the case of Avowed, you should be able to comfortably play it on Steam Deck without any hassle. The one note that's given simply warns that "entering some text requires manually invoking the on-screen keyboard." So bear that in-mind for, say, naming your character when you start a new game. Other than that, you should be good to go. According to this post on Reddit, a couple of people have said they've played it via their Deck and have not had many issues, though it seems it may be a good idea to reduce the graphics settings to counter any drops in the framerate.
