TL;DR

  • The DokiWatch cosmetic line is the most notable inclusion in the battle pass, which mirrors the magical girl genre in Japanese media.
  • DPS hero Freja has been added to the Overwatch 2 roster.
  • The main gameplay changes come with the addition of the Stadium game mode.
  • The battle pass has a range of new cosmetics for different heroes. However, the majority of them are not available on the free battle pass.

Blizzard has released Overwatch 2 season 16, and it features plenty of new content for veterans and new players alike. As with every Overwatch 2 season, season 16 includes an all-new battle pass that players can purchase for 1,000 Overwatch Coins. This is around $10, so players considering making the purchase are sure to be wondering what the battle pass includes.

The most notable inclusions in the battle pass are part of the DokiWatch cosmetic line, which mirrors the highly popular magical girl Japanese media genre.

DokiWatch isn’t all there is to the battle pass, though. With this in mind, we’re going to be diving deeper into the Overwatch 2 season 16 battle pass. We’ll be examining all the content within the pass, as well as the new season content in general, to determine whether it is worth buying.

What’s new?

As mentioned, the Overwatch 2 season 16 battle pass features a range of DokiWatch cosmetics, based on a magical girl-themed alternate universe. There are also metal-themed Demon Rocker skins and more.

A new hero has been added to the ever-expanding Overwatch 2 roster in season 16. DPS hero Freja wields a crossbow and has plenty of movement abilities that make her perfect for precise and agile playstyles.

New game mode Overwatch Stadium has also been released alongside season 16. This new mode allows players to rise through the Stadium ranks by customizing their own builds. There are only a certain number of characters currently available to use in Overwatch Stadium, but more will become available in the future.

Gameplay

With Overwatch 2 season 16, the main gameplay changes come within the Stadium game mode. The ability to strategize via custom builds is an all-new feature that allows for more unique gameplay and personalization.

Competitive mode also has a new feature: hero bans. Players can now select which heroes they want banned from a competitive game before they play. This isn’t directly related to gameplay, but it can make all the difference when it comes to decisions regarding team composition.

New hero Freja comes with a plethora of new abilities. She can rapidly fire automatic bolts from her Revdraw Crossbow, making for a speedy yet deadly main attack. She can also slow down and use her aim to fire an explosive bolt.

Freja’s other skills are movement-based, while her Bola Shot ultimate wraps around enemies and pulls them together while dealing explosive damage.

There are also new skins in the shop that relate to the Rocker Demon and DokiWatch themes of the battle pass. Players can purchase the DokiWatch mega bundle for 5,900 Overwatch Coins to receive various cosmetics along with the following skins:

  • Heart of Grace Widowmaker
  • Heart of Passion Kiriko
  • Nocturna D.Va
  • Dream Sheep Orisa
  • Glitter Mei

Those looking to collect all the DokiWatch skins will also have to purchase the Ultimate Battle Pass Bundle, as this includes Freja’s Heart of Courage skin. The bundle also features Illari’s Demon Rocker skin. A Mercy DokiWatch skin will be coming in the mid-season update, too. It is not yet available at the time of writing, but it will likely have to be bought separately in the shop.

So, is it worth it?

Whether or not the Overwatch 2 season 16 battle pass is worth it all comes down to whether you are particularly interested in the DokiWatch or Demon Rocker content. These two themes make up most of the Overwatch 2 season 16 battle pass, except for a few items, such as the Royal Swordsman Genji, Hollow Heart Moira, and Masked Rose Venture skins.

However, if DokiWatch is what you are interested in, you might be disappointed. There are only two DokiWatch skins within the battle pass, not counting Juno’s mythic DokiWatch skin. The other skins have to be bought separately. This is more than a little frustrating, especially since the Orisa, Tracer, and Mei DokiWatch skins aren’t unique and are simply recolors of existing skins.

If the DokiWatch skins are why you are interested in the Overwatch 2 season 16 battle pass, it isn’t worth it unless you are particularly invested in the Mythic Juno, Tracer, and Brigitte DokiWatch battle pass skins. If it’s the Rocker Demon content that has caught your eye, the battle pass is certainly worth a look. The only skin not included is Illari’s, though this becomes available when purchasing the ultimate battle pass (as does Freja’s DokiWatch skin).

Overwatch 2 season 16 has a ton of new and interesting content that is sure to keep players engaged, thanks to the inclusion of the new Overwatch Stadium and new hero, Freja.

When it comes to the Overwatch 2 season 16 battle pass, players interested in earning any of the cosmetics listed above will enjoy it, as long as they have time to get through all the necessary tiers to collect what they want. However, if these cosmetics aren’t of interest, or if you were hoping for more DokiWatch content, you’d be better off saving your Overwatch Coins for now.
