Lazarus, Devil May Cry, One Piece Egghead Arc, and more new TV to watch this week

April showers bring May flowers, but also they bring: spring anime season! There’s plenty of new TV to watch this week, and much of it is animated, across various platforms. Netflix has the Adi Shankar-run Devil May Cry adaptation; Max (and Adult Swim) will have both Iyanu, a promising new afrofuturist superhero story, and Lazarus, the latest from legendary anime director Shinichirō Watanabe.

And if you’re really jonesing for anime, there’s always Crunchyroll, where (of course) anime is aplenty, and the perfect place to check in at the top of spring anime season.

Here’s the best new TV premieres and finales this week.

New shows on Netflix

Devil May Cry

Genre: Demon fights
Release date: April 3, with all episodes
Showrunner/creator: Adi Shankar
Cast: Johnny Yong Bosch, Scout Taylor-Compton, Hoon Lee, and more

Dante (Johnny Yong Bosch) is just trying to live his life unencumbered and killing demons. Unfortunately, he’s about to get sucked into a whole world of conspiracies, heavy hitters, and a White Rabbit who’s intent on merging the human and demon worlds.

New shows on Max

Iyanu

Genre: Animated afrofuturism
Release date: April 5 at 9:30 EDT on Cartoon Network; next day on Max
Showrunner/creator: Roye Okupe
Cast: Serah Johnson, Okey Jude, Samuel Kugbiyi, and more

Taking place in a Yoruba-inspired world, Iyanu follows the titular girl (Serah Johnson), after she triggers her own magical powers by accident. She joins a team of other teens in her homeland Yorubaland, slowly uncovering truths about the reality of evil and even her own past in the process.

Lazarus

Genre: Mystery thriller
Release date: April 5 at midnight on Adult Swim; next day on Max
Showrunner/creator: Shinichirō Watanabe

In an alternate future of 2052, things are going more or less the same: new tech, same problems, and a miraculous side-effect-free pain reliever that pretty much everyone in the world has taken in some form or another. But everything changes when the enigmatic man who created the pill announces that it has a three-year lifespan, and now the first wave of users will die in about a month’s time unless someone manages to find him.

As the world rallies to try to save itself, we follow the Lazarus team, a group of misfits who are tasked with hunting down Skinner themselves. It’s a classic Watanabe setup, and (as you might expect from him) a great mix of spy thriller and hangout show.

The White Lotus season 3 finale

Three White Lotus women sitting at a table talking to each other and reading books

Genre: Entitlement vacation
Release date: April 6 at 6 p.m. PDT/9 p.m. EDT
Showrunner/creator: Mike White
Cast: Walton Goggins, Natasha Rothwell, Carrie Coon, and more

It’s the final sojourn in White Lotus’ Thailand season — do you know who’s going to die yet? Do you know who you wish would?

New shows on Prime Video

The Bondsman

Genre: Horror action
Release date: April 3
Showrunner/creator: Grainger David
Cast: Kevin Bacon, Beth Grant, Jennifer Nettles, and more

Hub Halloran (Kevin Bacon) is having an all right day: He’s just been resurrected from the dead and is ecstatic to have another shot at life as a bounty hunter. But he’s also just now finding out that his miraculous return comes with a few demonic strings — like becoming a bounty hunter for the devil (or else he dies again, oop).

New shows on Crunchyroll

Wind Breaker season 2

Genre: High school heroic arc
Release date: April 3
Studio: CloverWorks

Everything is changing in season 2 of Wind Breaker — namely Sakura’s idea of what it means to be “at the top” after making some friends (and enemies) at Furin High School. Now he’s moving from delinquent to a Grade Captain, fighting to protect others (and maybe become a heroic legend in the process).

One Piece Egghead Arc part 2

Genre: One Piece (you know what you’re in for)
Release date: April 5
Studio: Toei Animation

One Piece is back, like we always knew it’d be. The Straw Hat Pirates have arrived at the mysterious Egghead Island following the raid on Onigashima and the destruction of Lulusia Kingdom, and they find themselves surrounded by futuristic technology that draws the attention of the World Government — can Luffy and his crew escape unscathed?

Anne Shirley

Genre: Anne of Green Gables
Release date: April 6
Studio: The Answer Studio

This one is a sure-to-be charming look at Anne of Green Gables, as done via anime! Based on the beloved book series, Anne Shirley follows the titular young girl mistakenly sent to Avonlea in Prince Edward Island, Canada, where she gets adopted and finds a new home. A lifetime of adventures ensue!
