Loft Boarding Query

Our loft has a low pitch roof. 156cm in the centre which slopes off 3 ways. I want to board the loft as I need the storage space. We currently have 270mm of insulation as recommended, but to board the loft I would lose 175mm of height in loft legs plus the 18mm board. The other option is to remove the excess insulation board straight onto the joists with 100mm insulation between. Would it be better or worse to just squash the 270mm insulation down to 100mm? I know you shouldn't, but is that better or worse than just removing it? Are there any other options please? I don't want to lose head height but want it as insulated as possible. I've read online about placing crossbeams over the joists but I'm unsure how the added weight would effect the joists. submitted by /u/Djwalshaw [link] [comments]
