Looking for advice on living room conversion + kitchen ventilation concerns (UK)
Hey all, I’m about to purchase a ground floor apartment and would love some advice. My plan is to rent out the two bedrooms and live in the open-plan living room myself. To give the lounge more of a “room” feel and separate it from the kitchen a bit, here’s what I’m thinking: Place a large wardrobe about two-thirds into the lounge (leaving enough space for a walkway to the kitchen). Attach thin plasterboard or similar material to the back of the wardrobe so it reaches floor to ceiling. Add a lightweight hollow door to one side of the wardrobe to give the impression of a proper room. I’m doing this mainly because it doesn’t require planning permission or major alterations. My questions: Is this a good idea? Would anyone suggest a better or more practical way to divide the space? Ventilation concerns: The kitchen has no window, only a ductless extractor hood. Will cooking smells become a big issue in the lounge/bedroom space? Will my clothes start to smell if they’re stored nearby? Would really appreciate input from anyone who’s done something similar or has suggestions. Thanks! https://preview.redd.it/f4tueoibw51f1.png?width=640&format=png&auto=webp&s=b6b67baf946c9ae3ea6174d6919ab4f9ba3a6e19 submitted by /u/IntelligentSplit1419 [link] [comments]
