My townhome is wired for 3 phone jacks using CAT5e wire. What do I need to know about switching the jacks with Ethernet jacks?
My house is the center unit of a 3-unit townhome. And the internet connection points are balls. I just found out my 3 phone jacks are wired with CAT5e (it’s labeled on the wire) and I would love to switch them to Ethernet and run Ethernet to the 3 pre-existing boxes. I understand how to switch out the jacks, but do I need to be worried about finding where the 3 wires meet? Will one of them only have been spliced in with the blue and blue and white striped wire? Also what do I need to do about where the phone line connects to the house? I am never going to use that line, so do I need to worry about terminating that line somewhere in a Jack? Any other tips will be greatly appreciated. submitted by /u/burnside117 [link] [comments]
