Need tiling advice

I’m renovating our 1905 kitchen. I tore out the vinyl flooring laid in 1983 with the hopes of putting down 12x24 slate tile. My original plan was to screw cement board directly over the floor and put the tiles on it. I have a few questions. 1) how much of the old glue do I need to get off? 2)do I have to put a layer of thinset under the cement board 3) this floor will be like 1 inch higher than the hardwood floor, will that be an issue? In reading other threads people have suggested totally removing the subfloor. I believe the original vinyl has asbestos so they just put a 1/4” wood subfloor directly on top. I have included a shot of everything currently on the joists. There is a 1” floor, 3/4”subfloor and then a 1/4” floor. Any advice at all is appreciated submitted by /u/Distinct_Ad9961 [link] [comments]
