Onimusha: Way of the Sword New Trailer Shows Off New Gameplay, Protagonist

Capcom has shown off new gameplay of its upcoming 2026 action game, Onimusha: Way of the Sword. More than that, we finally know who's leading the next Onimusha and it's none other than historic swordsman Miyamoto Musashi.

In a new trailer that premiered at the PlayStation State of Play, Capcom offered a new glimpse at the gameplay of the upcoming Onimusha: Way of the Sword. While the upcoming action game won't be out until 2026, it's looking quite good with sword-based action gameplay and big enemies.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword will also star Miyamoto Musashi, a Japanese swordsman whose exploits with the blade are famous in history. His sword skills look unparalleled here as well, but we also got a look at his rogueish, and comedic, personality.

In a press release, Capcom calls Onimusha: Way of the Sword a dark fantasy action game starring one of Japan's most famous historical figures. Musashi's face has apparently been modeled after Toshiro Mifune, the late, iconic Japanese movie star who has played Musashi in samurai movies.

Way of the Sword will take place in Kyoto which has been taken over by an evil force known as Malic which is summoning Hell and its residents into Japan. This is the first new onimusha game in twenty years, though Capcom also announced that it will release a remaster of Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny on May 23, 2025 to get fans ready for the next game.
