North American amateur esports platform PlayVS has announced the acquisition of Generation Esports and Playfly College Esports.
This move allows the platform to unite many elementary to college programmes into a single ecosystem, forming what many describe as the largest scholastic esports network in the US.
PlayVs has partnered with many organisations in the past, such as Omnic.AI last year. However, its latest additions may prove to be one of the biggest deals for the collegiate platform yet. With two major esports companies under its wing, PlayVS now features more than 900 colleges and over 5,500 schools on its platform.
According to PlayVS, the expansion helps create “a unique pipeline that helps students compete, build skills and pursue opportunities” related to esports during academic study. Financial figures of the acquisition have not been revealed.
“This is a historic moment for esports in schools,” said Jon Chapman, CEO of PlayVS. “We are creating an unprecedented network for students to experience the benefits of gaming at every level.
“Whether they’re just getting started in elementary school, competing in middle or high school, or continuing their journey into college, students now have a unified platform to build life skills, connect with their peers, and access meaningful academic and career pathways.”
A Big Moment for Collegiate Esports
Gaming Concepts, a curriculum by Generation Esports, allows students to learn real-world applicable skills while competing. According to PlayVS, this aids the company’s vision to build STEM and technology-related skillsets for students participating in esports.
PlayVS also states that the expansion creates more opportunities for “partners to support the growing impact of scholastic and collegiate esports.”
The acquisitions mean brands and sponsors have more opportunities to engage with esports through structured educational programmes.
Craig Sloan, CEO of Playfly Sports, added: “Esports has been a key part of Playfly’s investment thesis from the beginning, and we’re incredibly proud of the team that built and led our esports business.
“As they join PlayVS, an established leader in the esports landscape, we’re confident they will continue to thrive and make an even greater impact on the future of competitive gaming.”
PlayVS is an esports and gaming platform that aims to develop student skills. It offers a community where players, coaches, educators, and parents can learn about the esports industry. The recent acquisitions of Generation Esports and Playfly Esports follow the launch of the Collective Partner Network last year, making it one of the largest organisations offering paths into esports within academics in North America.
