Popping stairs

Ok I’ve read and watched tons of videos… I just put 150 screws into my 3 popping carpeted stairs and they STILL MAKE A POPPING NOISE! I’ve screwed into the risers, towards the front, on the sides, at an angle… STILL POPS! Help! I can’t really pull the carpet up now because there are so many screws!
